[R*ddit Repost] Twitch Support Implementation

This is a repost from R*ddit in Case if no one wants or will find this Forum firstly or never will find Pidgin’s /r.

Asked:

Hello!

I just discovered Pidgin (and IRC Clients) and wanted to use it for Twitch Chat Browsing, but unfortunately I also discovered the fact that Twitch made IRC Protocols deprecated in Feb 2023, so we can use Twitch IRC only for Message read&write, but no Moderation Tools and no Viewers List available though.

So Twitch migrated to its API instead, and I want to know if someone have Solution for Pidgin to still use Twitch IRC and even upgrade it with API Calls like for all Broadcaster, Moderator and User Commands. Please, share this. It is too interesting, so we all should know about that

Right now that’s all there is, but I’ve been working on a Twitch plugin for Pidgin 3 (still in development and unreleased) that will be moved to the pub/sub API but right now it still uses IRC to connect.

Please support also Pidgin2 :sob::wilted_flower:

Answered:

That won’t happen, pidgin 2 literally can’t handle the emojis in twitch, I tried very hard to make it work and it’d require a ton of work to do so. And that’s just one of a number of things that pidgin 2 won’t handle well for twitch.

There’s no need to cross post stuff that’s already answered in one place. Typically people will use a search engine and stumble across the first.

May be, but this Forum seems like too empty, so it would be good to fill it with all old, but Actual Questions with Answers from r/pidgin.

Also unlike subR*ddit, there are Tags, Markers or whatever are they for easy Access and Information Filtering.
It would be nice to have also Flairs on subR*ddit too, so People can easily access any interesting Info.

As I already mentioned, there is no sense in creating duplicates across the forums. It just creates busy work for everyone involved and makes it harder for people to find the correct answer because they now have two divergent things to look at.

Ok, understood. But still subR*ddit lacks of any Flairs/Tags that can help to sort all Posts between Discussions/Questions/Releases/News/etc.

There’s a small amount of flair there, but i think it’s admin only because users tend to just spam everything to get anyone to look at their posts.

Those (i. e. NSFW, Spoiler, etc.) are not “real” Flairs and everyone can add them to their Posts.
To enable “real” Flairs, You can go like this:

subR*ddit Page > Mod Tools > Settings > Look and Feel > Post Flair.
Or just go to https://www.reddit.com/mod/pidgin/postflair (as a User that is eligible for Moderating /r of course; on default Users this Page won’t work)

We don’t want people adding the flair themselves as they tend to make a mess of it.
