Naming troubles

Could be worth a shot. Motmot is really the best name so far.

There’s a bit of snark and pessimism to this, but the more I think about it, Canonical isn’t known for having their big projects like this sticking around for a long time.There’s quite a few examples, and not that I want to be mean about it, but here are a few for example: upstart, mir, and unity.

So what I am really asking is, do we need to change the name?

That might be but the names are still out there. Unity continued to exist even after Canonical dropped it. In my opinion a name conflict should be avoided.

That’s fair, I’m just getting frustrated with all much work this has become.

So I reached out to Andrew Straw which is the maintainer of the motmot organization on github and he gave us the okay to use the name for a chat protocol. I can provide the email thread if necessary (all address are already public) but didn’t think it was necessary.
