I was thinking about having the opposite of the planned bridging plugin. A split plugin or redirect plugin where you can select one or more members in a conversation, mute them (client side) in the current conversation and redirect their messages into a new conversation that would also be on client side only.

The use case would be, you are in a chat room of an open source project which has a bot that automatically notifies about new pull requests or similar things. You generally aren’t interested in them and don’t want them to clutter the chat room but you want to be able to check them out later.

That’s an interesting idea that might be completely covered by [https://issues.imfreedom.org/issue/PIDGIN-18127](https://issues.imfreedom.org/issue/PIDGIN-18127) without any additional work? Although this wouldn’t track a separate unread messages separately or anything.

Ah, nice this would at least cover the described use case of ignoring messages of certain users and displaying them later on.

I’ve gotten reports of users using buddy pounces in pidgin 2 to get notified when their friends come online. It would be pretty simple to write a plugin that could create a notification when a contact who’s been favorited comes online which should work.

What to call this I dunno, but “notify favorites” is not a good name :rwgrimlol:

The name “Besties” randomly popped into my head today.
